Arthur Hayes Sold Hyperliquid For Ferrari

BitMEX co-founder Arthur Hayes has sold off his entire Hyperliquid (HYPE) stash  — seemingly, for a Ferrari —  just a month after he tipped the token to surge around 126x over the next three years.

“Need to pay my deposit on the new Rari 849 Testarossa,” Hayes wrote on Sept. 21.

The post came after an X post from blockchain data platforms such as Lookonchain on Sept. 21 that said Hayes banked around $823,000 of profit on his 96,628 HYPE — netting him a 19.2% gain, according to data from HypurrScan.

Arthur Hayes predicted HYPE to rocket 126x in August

HYPE is the native token that powers the Hyperliquid decentralized derivatives exchange. HYPE was $49.48 at the time of writing, down around 8.1% over the past 24 hours, but is up a staggering 660% since it launched in late November at $6.51.

The DEX has also seen a significant uptick in trading volume last month, going from around $560 million at the start of August to an all-time high of $3.4 billion on Aug. 24, according to data from DefiLlama.

During the WebX 2025 conference in Tokyo, Hayes forecasted HYPE’s price to surge 126x over the next three years.

The BitMEX co-founder argued that continued fiat debasement would drive stablecoin market expansion and push HyperLiquid’s annualized fees to as high as $255 billion, up from its annualized revenue of $1.2 billion at the time.

Could Arthur Hayes buy back into HYPE?

As it stands, Hayes hasn’t yet indicated if he will dive back into HYPE.

Looking at some of Hayes’ other recent predictions that may or may not require a pinch of salt, the 40-year-old suggested last week that the crypto markets will soon enter “up only” mode as the US Treasury hit its goal of filling the General Account with $850 billion on Friday.

“With this liquidity drain complete, up only can resume,” Hayes wrote.

Hayes also sees the price of Bitcoin (BTC) hitting $250,000 by the end of 2025, and has a history of making bold market predictions.
